What counts as a dental emergency?
Pain that keeps you up at night, swelling, bleeding that won’t stop, a knocked-out adult tooth and a broken tooth with sharp edges all need prompt care. A chipped tooth without pain can usually wait a day or two.
If swelling spreads to your eye or neck or makes it hard to breathe or swallow, go to the nearest emergency room immediately.
What should I do if a tooth is knocked out?
Pick it up by the crown — not the root. Rinse gently, and if you can, place it back in the socket or keep it in milk. Call us right away: teeth replanted within about 30–60 minutes have the best chance of surviving.

Emergency Dentistry FAQs
Do you take same-day dental emergencies?
Yes. Call (323) 405-1491 as early as possible and we will do our best to see you the same day.
How much does an emergency dental visit cost?
New patients can get a $39 emergency exam with one X-ray. Any treatment is quoted before it begins.
What can I take for a toothache until my appointment?
Over-the-counter pain relievers as directed on the label, a cold compress on the cheek, and rinsing with warm salt water can help. Never put aspirin directly on the gums.
Should I go to the ER or the dentist for a toothache?
For most toothaches, a dentist can actually fix the cause. Go to the ER if swelling affects your breathing, swallowing or vision, or if you have a high fever.
My crown fell off — what do I do?
Keep the crown, avoid chewing on that side and call us. We can often re-cement it the same day.
